About Stanhope
Stanhope, County Durham, the “capital” of Weardale, lies high in the moorland with fells reaching more than 2,000 ft towards the South West. Weardale is a quiet holiday haven, an old lead-mining centre which is now more concerned with farming, quarrying and visitors. The area, still rich in beauty-spots, walks and drives, once provided good hunting for medieval knights and princes of the Church.
